Take that personal retreat that you’ve been putting off for so long. I’ve been taking personal retreats for the last ten years to keep myself well-tuned, and let’s face it, sane. I’m a working mother of two and give of myself all the time to friends, husband, family, community… you get the picture.

Every retreat has been different. I try to keep myself open and not expect anything from my retreat other then a renewal of spirit. Some of my friends ask, “How can you ever go alone?”, “Who do you talk to or have dinner with?”, or (I love this one) “Aren’t you afraid?” But that’s half the fun: meeting people who you’ve never met before.

Or, if you don’t feel like talking or doing anything, then you don’t have to. Some of my favorite retreats have been Sedona, Big Sur, Maui and Peru. It doesn’t even have to be “away”. Just book a room somewhere close to home for the weekend. Open up the space to allow yourself to just be with yourself. You might just learn something about yourself that you never knew before. When you arrive home, you will be ready to face the next wave of life that comes your way.
